As we approach the first anniversary of the Cancer Support Group we set up to bring together all those affected by Cancer on Islay & Jura, be it now or in the past, we thought you might like an update.
Our regular friendly gatherings have been at various venues, well attended and refreshments courtesy of Feis Ile Committee. Although we are brought together by a serious subject, with our main aim being to support each other and access information, we do have a fair bit of fun along the way as laughter is often the best medicine!
We have lots of exciting plans going forward such as Beatson Specialists who have shown interest in visiting us to offer general support advice and information. We are hoping to get online sessions with organisations such as ‘Look Good Feel Better’, Maggie’s Centre and Beatson courses and we are also hoping to arrange activities to encourage partners and close family members to meet and help support each other too.
We are in the process of developing our own website, so that information and support can be more readily accessed by those who may be apprehensive about joining our group.
On other exciting news we are also in the early stages of arranging a Men’s Health Event at the Gaelic College to encourage men to be more proactive in their health care. We are inviting medics to promote their services and are hoping to attract attendance with a race car experience activity donated by IslaySims.
