Accommodation for Hospital Visits

As well as the usual AirBnb type sites the following have been of great assistance :-

Port Cottage & Kitty’s Cabin PA4 9LX

A lovely lady called Lyndsey, with Islay connections, rents out two fully equipped self-catering cottages which come highly recommended and are close, by car,  to all the usual Hospitals (RAH- 11 mins, QEUH-13 mins, Beatson- 21 mins) . Port Cottage is all on one level and can sleep up to 4 (1 double bedroom & 1 double sofa bed) & Kitty’s Cabin is a lovely Shepherd’s Hut (1 double bed). Both have private off street parking and are situated in a quiet rural area to provide much needed rest and recuperation away from hospital. Lyndsey is on FB, Islay Noticeboard under Lyndsey Martin or can be contacted by Email – lyndseymartin74@yahoo.com or telephone/Text/WhatsApp 07957 944463.

Assistance at Glasgow Airport

Patient Transport in Bowmore can arrange ‘Special Assistance’ at Glasgow Airport (as well as on Islay) to help you get through the Airport. Their staff are very friendly and helpful and will use their wheelchairs to help you get through the airport and security as quickly and easily as possible. They collect you from the plane and deliver you back to it.

You can also ask for assistance at their Help Point (opposite the LoganAir Check In desk) if not pre-arranged and you are not feeling well or able enough to get back through the airport yourself after your hospital visit. There are also Help Point telephones at various other locations, such as the pick-up/drop-off points under the Car Park opposite the terminal building.

Also at this Help Point you can ask to borrow the key for the ‘Changing Places’ spacious and well equipped toilet and showering facility designed for those needing extra mobility equipment or accompanied by a Carer. Details can be found for both using this link https://www.glasgowairport.com/special-assistance/
